Cyclone Gaja - Martin Foundation’s Contribution

In November 2018, Cyclone Gaja swept through the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu as the most powerful and damaging disaster to ever hit the delta region. It gradually drifted through the devastated expanses of Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukottai, Dindigul, Trichy, Karur, Sivagangai, Ramnad, and Karaikal, causing flooding and extraordinary damage in the delta areas and surrounding bays with widespread power outages, scattering garbage and completely razed houses.

Cyclone Gaja led to the evacuation of thousands of people from the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu.

Martin Foundation worked with local authorities by supporting evacuation and distributing alerts via the local community radio to neighboring villages. Our team has worked tirelessly to ensure that those affected by the storm have access to essential supplies and services such as shelter, food, water, sanitation, clothing, and medical care.

And now, the Martin Foundation has not only donated a whopping sum of 5 crores to the CM relief fund for the victims of Cyclone Gaja in the delta region but also Rs. 3 crores in relief supplies to the affected people, bringing the entire balance to huge increased Rs. 8 crores. It would be the largest individual contribution to date to those affected by Gaja. The Martin Foundation will always strive to create a better future and will continue to do so.
